How we’re funded

RiseWell is free to read, and it costs money to make. This page sets out exactly where that money comes from, so you can judge what you read here with the full picture in front of you.

What we earn from

• Affiliate links. If you buy something through certain links on this site, we receive a commission from the retailer. You pay the same price either way.
• Display advertising. Some pages carry advertising units. These are sold by advertising partners, not by us, and we do not choose the individual advertisers.
• Our own shop. We sell a small range of our own products. When we make money directly from something, we say so on the page.

Disclosure sits beside the link

A disclosure line at the bottom of a page is technically compliant and practically useless. Nobody scrolls that far to find out whether the thing they just clicked pays us. So every affiliate link on RiseWell is disclosed before or beside the link itself, in the place where you actually make the decision. This page exists as the full explanation, not as the disclosure.

Advertising units are labelled “Advertisement” and given a fixed reserved height, so an ad loading late never shoves the paragraph you are reading down the page.

Nothing is recommended before it is reviewed

We do not recommend a product, service or provider we have not looked at properly. Affiliate programmes will offer to pay for placement; we do not sell it. Where a category is genuinely useful to readers but we have not yet reviewed a provider we would stand behind, we leave a placeholder rather than fill the space with whoever pays best.

Commercial partners have no say in what we publish, no sight of articles before publication, and no ability to have criticism removed. Nothing we sell or link to treats, prevents or cures any medical condition, and we do not describe it that way.

Where there is no commerce at all

Some passages carry no advertising and no commercial links of any kind:

• Anything about crisis, self-harm or suicide, including the Samaritans signposting.
• Every “When to see a professional” section, wherever it appears.
• Sensitive articles in full, erectile dysfunction and separation among them.
• Shop and checkout pages carry no third-party advertising.

If a man is reading the paragraph that tells him where to get help, he should not have to read past an advert to get to the phone number.
