About
Who RiseWell is for, the five pillars, how we work, and the story behind the First Light mark.
RiseWell is a practical self-improvement site for men. It is for the man who is doing alright, mostly, and knows a few things could be better: his sleep, his temper, his marriage, his money, the way he is with his kids. Not a crisis. Just the ordinary work of getting better at real things.
Our promise is simple: become harder to break and easier to live with. Those two halves belong together. Strength that makes you unpleasant to be around is not strength, and being easy-going while quietly falling apart is not kindness.
The five pillars
Everything we publish sits in one of five areas. They are the parts of a life that tend to hold each other up.
- Body: training, sleep, nutrition, sexual-health education, screening and longevity.
- Mind: stress, confidence, heartbreak, emotional regulation, identity and purpose.
- Relationships: partnership, communication, intimacy, divorce and friendship.
- Family. Fatherhood, being a son, home life and caring for ageing parents.
- Work: career, money habits, leadership, redundancy and skills.
How we work
We are evidence-led. Health and psychology claims are sourced (the NHS, NICE, peer-reviewed research and recognised professional bodies), and the sources are listed at the foot of the article so you can check them yourself. Where the evidence is thin or contested, we say so rather than rounding it up into a certainty.
Every article should leave you with something to do this week. A checklist, a routine, a script for a conversation you have been avoiding. Reading about change is not change.
We never diagnose. Nothing here is medical, legal or financial advice, and no article can know your history. When a subject touches medical or mental-health ground, we signpost a GP or a qualified professional clearly and early, not as a disclaimer buried at the bottom. If you are in crisis in the UK, the Samaritans are on 116 123, free, at any hour.
We are also open about money. Some of what we publish carries affiliate links or advertising, and that is set out in full on our How we’re funded page. Our full editorial and medical policy explains how articles are researched and corrected.
What our mark means
Our mark is a woodcut sunrise: a low sun with the light cut into it in hard, hand-carved lines. We call it First Light. It is deliberately not a smooth gradient or a glowing lens flare. A woodcut is made by removing material. You get the image by taking things away, and you only get one attempt at each cut.
The hour it belongs to is the one before the house wakes. Kettle on, nobody asking you for anything, the day not yet decided. Most men who change anything do it in that hour, or in a version of it. The drive to work, the walk back from the school gates, the twenty minutes after everyone has gone to bed. It is not glamorous and nobody is watching. That is rather the point.
The name carries a second reading, and this is the part we care about most. Rise well: you, getting better at your own life. And raise well. The men who come after you: your sons, your younger brothers, your mates, the lads who watch how you handle a bad day and quietly take notes. Standards are inherited. What you fix in yourself rarely stops with you.
Rise strong, live well.
